Le quatrième Front commun syndical : un échec libérateur ? The fourth common front in the union movement: a liberating failure? El cuarto frente común sindical: ¿Un fracaso liberador?

L’auteur poursuit une réflexion sur le poids historique des syndicats des secteurs publics et parapublics québécois. Il pose l’hypothèse que l’échec du quatrième Front commun met fin d’une part au leadership prématurément sclérosé de ces syndicats sur l’ensemble du mouvement syndical et que, d’autre part, il libère au sein des syndicats du secteur public la tendance qui porte « les nouvelles valeurs » liées au féminisme, à l’écologisme et à la contre-culture en général. Celles-ci, affirme-t-il, commandent un nouveau rapport au travail-nécessaire-pour-gagner-sa-vie. À cause de cela même, elles pourraient renouveler les pratiques syndicales et permettre au mouvement syndical de mieux faire face à la crise.

Abstract

The author recapitulates his on-going analysis of the historical significance of the public and para-public Quebec unions. He suggests that the failure of the fourth Common Front has broken the stranglehold which this group of unions exercised over the rest of the movement. One of the effects has been to give new credibility within the movement to groups more closely connected to the women's movement, ecology and "counter-culture" groups in general. These groups, suggests the author, are in the forefront of the struggle to change the social definition of work in our society and in this sense, can contribute to a rejuvenation of union tactics and strategy which is sorely needed in this period of economic crisis.

El autor reflexiona sobre el peso histórico de los sindicatos de los sectores públicos y parapúblicos en el Québec, y plantea la hipótesis que el fracaso del cuarto frente común termina con el liderazgo prematuramente esclerosado de estos sindicatos sobre el conjunto del movimiento sindical, y libera, por otra parte, en el seno mismo de los sindicatos del sector público, la tendencia que vehicula los "nuevos valores" ligados al feminismo, al ecologismo y a la contra-cultura. Estas tendencias redefinen la relación al trabajo necesario para ganarse la vida, y por ello mismo podrían renovar las prácticas sindicales y permitir al movimiento sindical de enfrentar mejor la crisis.
