Abstract

This article deals with the daily health management within the family which, far from involving skills only, is based on the existence and significations or contents of family relations themselves. To study the family/health connection from this point of view enables: 1) to underline that the role played by the family is not only curative but also preventive, 2) to observe that this role resides also in other types of activities which are but indirectly related to health and, 3) to show that this role is also highly dependent on the state of relations within the family cell. This investigation of the family role in health matters is based on studies conducted in various European countries (France, Switzerland, Great Britain, Federal Republic of Germany) and favours the analysis of broken families, since it brings out the unknown dimensions of daily health management and its related specific family forms of sociability.

Resumen

El artículo analiza la gestión cotidiana de la salud en la familia, una gestión que implica no sólo competencias, sino que se basa en la existencia y las significaciones o los contenidos de las relaciones familiares. Abordar la relación familia/salud permite subrayar el rol preventivo y no solamente curativo que ella puede jugar, observar que un tal rol se basa en una gran variedad de actividades que sólo tienen una relación indirecta con la salud, y de mostar que este rol de las relaciones en el seno de la célula familiar. Este enfoque del rol de la familia en materia de salud se basa en estudios realizados en diferentes países europeos (Francia, Suiza, Gran Bretaña y Alemania Federal), y privilegia el análisis de situaciones de ruptura familiar, ya que ellas son susceptibles de permitir una mejor identificación de las dimensiones desconocidas de la gestión cotidiana de la salud y de las formas específicas de sociabilidad que les están asociadas.
