Biographical note
Ersy Contogouris is adjunct professor in the Department of art history at Université du Québec à Montréal, where she specializes in the history of eighteenth and nineteenth-century art and in the history of caricature. In her dissertation entitled “Emma Hamilton, a Model of Agency in Late Eighteenth-Century England” (2014), she showed that Hamilton found an effective way to assert her agency and was a powerful source of inspiration for generations of women and artists in their quest for expression and self-realization. Contogouris is the assistant editor of The Efflorescence of Caricature, 1759-1838 (Ashgate) and has published essays in the journal RACAR and in the edited collection L’art de la caricature among others.

Ersy Contogouris est professeure associée au département d’histoire de l’art de l’Université du Québec à Montréal, où elle se spécialise dans l’histoire de l’art des 18e et 19e siècles et dans l’histoire de la caricature. Dans sa thèse intitulée « Emma Hamilton, A Model of Agency in Late Eighteenth-Century England » (2014), elle a démontré qu’Hamilton a trouvé une manière efficace d’affirmer sa capacité d’agir et a été une source d’inspiration très forte pour des générations de femmes et d’artistes dans leur volonté d’expression et de réalisation de soi. Contogouris est rédactrice adjointe de l’ouvrage The Efflorescence of Caricature, 1759-1838 (chez Ashgate) et ses essais ont paru dans la revue RACAR et dans la collection L’art de la caricature, entre autres.
