We want to take the opportunity of the publication of this issue of Lumen again to thank all those who helped realize the 2021 conference organized jointly between the Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (CSECS) and the Midwestern American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (MWASECS). These include our sponsors, notably SSHRC, Université de Saint-Boniface, the University of Manitoba, the University of Winnipeg, and GALE CENGAGE Learning (not to mention CSECS and MWASECS themselves). We remain grateful to the staff at the Inn at the Forks in Winnipeg, our original main conference venue, for their understanding and willingness to release us from all contractual obligations; to FORJ, which provided us with our platform, allowing us to customize the look of it so beautifully to suit our period of study; and the Blackbaud team at the University of Winnipeg who provided the system of conference registration. As the conference organizers and special editors of Lumen no. 41, we want further to acknowledge other members of the organizing committee: Natalie LaFleur, Pam Perkins, and Armelle St-Martin and the executive of the Midwestern American Society for Eighteenth Century Studies, especially Sharon Smith, with whom we were in frequent consultation over many decisions related to conference organization. We want equally to thank the three conference plenaries : Ros Ballaster, Reginald McGinnis, and Cary Miller, and everyone else involved in special programming for the conference, notably Marc André Bernier, Paul DePasquale, Sylvia Hunt, Bill Kerr, Chantel Lavoie, Paul Rice, Leslie Ritchie, Laura Stevens, and Owen Toews. Among those we would like additionally to acknowledge here are Rebecca Shapiro and Danielle Spratt, who generously adapted and delivered the mentoring program “The Doctor Is In” online—an important first for CSECS. Finally, we appreciate the work of CSECS graduate student representative Nour Afara and Natalie LaFleur in seeking to enrich the graduate student experience of the conference by creating special opportunities for those attendees to connect online. With the help of Mathieu Bouchard, they also made possible two in-person events, one in Ottawa, the other in Montreal, for graduate students in those cities.
