Abstract
This article explores how photographic and filmic images can not only represent the relationship between a sleeper and a watcher but also become the medium of the trust binding them. The images of sleep invite their spectator to imaginarily participate in the ethical bond—may it be real or fictional—that joins the sleeper and the watcher before their eyes, thus calling for a renewal of the metaphors of the spectator as dreamer or voyeur.
