Absence d'amour et présence des microbes : sur les modèles culturels de l'enfant

Résumé

Dans la mesure où la famille nucléaire et l'enfance sont des créations sociales relativement récentes, on peut se demander comment s'est élaborée la catégorie «enfance» en tant qu'étape spécifique et différenciée du cycle de vie et comment elle s'est institutionnalisée peu à peu. L'objectif de ce texte consiste à identifier ces modèles institutionnalisés de l'enfant qui ont régné au Québec depuis le tournant du siècle. Je partirai de la question suivante: comment la production systématique de connaissances scientifiques intervient-elle et influe-t-elle sur les modèles culturels de l'enfant? Bref, comment une certaine science s'immisce-t-elle de façon normative dans la relation parent-enfant ?

Abstract

In as much as the nuclear family and childhood are relatively recent social creations, one may wonder how the category "childhood" came to be developed as a specific stage that is differenciated in the life cycle and how it gradually became institutionalized. The objective of this text is to identify these institutional models of childhood that have prevailed in Quebec since the turn of the century. The following question is taken as a starting point: how does the systematic production of scientific knowledge intervene and exert influence on the cultural models of the child? In short, how can a certain scientific approach enter in a normative way into the parent-child relationship?
