Abstract
Among the many art forms that now drive a theatre "in crisis", contemporary dance seems to us to be a formidable workshop for "new action". One can observe many of the elements that make up dance in the preoccupations of what has been called a "postdramatic theatre". Essentially, this describes the close relationship created between the notion of immanence, a certain detachment with respect to predetermined meaning, and an openness to the sources of "pure drama". Whether by design or not, dance produces theatrical effects. Physical action, as opposed to active physicality, reveals itself, drawing not only upon the uses of the body, mental state, situation and space, but also upon the potentiality created by scenic representation as a whole, as an activation of receptivity.
